We all know that the right suit can make an ordinary guy suddenly turn into THAT guy, so yesterday we went over to the 1xtra Academy in London to find out how superstar tailor Ozwald Boateng (UK/Ghana) does it. Having recently showcased at the ARISE Fashion Week in Lagos, and shot his S/S’12 collection in a Johannesburg township, Soweto, we took the chance to ask him his thoughts on the African fashion industry.
On African Style:
“The first rule of fashion is belief in what you’re wearing, and Africans, style is in our DNA”
On the African fashion industry:
“I’m very excited about the next 5-10 years in Africa’s fashion industry. But this is just the beginning, what we need now is to make it sustainable.”
“Home to most of the world’s natural resources, ultimately the success of the rest of the world depends on the success of Africa. This is why I founded the Made in Africa foundation which funds infrastructure feasibility studies.”
We love his African tendency towards bright colours, although the fact that boys just look better in his suits is reason enough——-> Boys, his summer sale starts 21st June.
