Last week Alae and I went down to Whitechapel to sneak peek Choolips SS13 collection and pick the brain of the woman in charge, Annegret Affolderbach. Four hours after her stories of doing business in Ghana and Kenya, making collections for Topshop, and her take on fairly traded fashion we got down to the collection. We've always loved the philosophy behind Choolips, their commitment to high quality craftsmanship and contemporary take on Batik printing, but now we're glad to be just as excited about the products too. Their SS13 collection is fun and flirty, and is Inspired by the Surma tribe from Omo Valley, Ethiopia, who are famous for their bold geometric body paintings.
The Choolips 'Golden Coast' collection is designed in London, printed by local batikers in Ghana, and tailored in Kenya by SOKO-Kenya.
Our absolute favourite was this yellow bomber jacket that Alae tried on. We tried to beg Annegret to let us have one for our trip to Zimbabwe this Dec where it will be summer, but they won't hit stores until February. If you're of the organised personality type, you can pre-order the collection here.
We also loved the yellow print as a dress, but our favourite had to be this watercolour dress with the cut out back. Summer day-to-night superpowers that would be perfect in either sandals or heels.
